Window Management

Crop And Lock

Crop any part of any window into a small floating thumbnail that updates live. Perfect for keeping an eye on a chart, a video, terminal output, or a chat — without giving up screen real estate to a whole window.

Requirements

  • macOS 13 Ventura or later.
  • Screen Recording permission — so ProToys can capture the live picture of the window.

To grant it: open System Settings → Privacy & Security → Screen Recording and tick ProToys.

How to Use

  1. Press T.
  2. A window picker appears. Select the app window you want to crop.
  3. A crop selection overlay appears over that window. Click and drag to define the region you want to monitor.
  4. Release the mouse. A floating thumbnail panel appears showing that region updating live.
  5. Position and resize the thumbnail panel wherever is convenient on your screen.
Tip

You can have several crop thumbnails open at once. Press the hotkey again to start another one — from the same window or a different one.

Closing a Thumbnail

Click the close button on the thumbnail, just like any other window. The live capture for that crop stops automatically.
